Non-scripted questing means you can complete “feats” in whatever order you like.The crafting system is awesome fun and you can do most of it semi-afk.It takes a very long time to ride from one end to the other. Massive world to explore – The map is enormous and there’s a lot of different environments, islands, caves, rivers, mountains to explore.Although higher prowess/better geared characters have an advantage, you’ll rarely find yourself with no chance to fight back or at least escape.

I really like this aspect of the game, while it might seem “grindy” to some, the fact that you can do most of it semi-afk (you probably don’t want to AFK in the PVP zones), is a major plus to me. You can do a lot of it semi-AFK which means you can do it while completing monotonous household tasks such as cleaning and cooking. Most of the gear worth using in Darkfall, is crafted by players. Most players will keep a few spare sets of gear in their bank to re-equip upon death. Also, when you die you drop everything you were carrying and other players can loot your corpse, so there is definitely high risk to Darkfall’s PvP. You can avoid player combat by hanging around the starter cities and safe zones, but all the good loot and adventure is out in unsafe territory and you’ll find that it’s a lot harder to get past a certain level of prowess after a while.
Getting used to the specialised combat system in Darkfall means you will probably be thankful for the masses of PVE you have to do in order to practice getting it right. This might instantly put a lot of people off, but the PVE is pretty fun and the monsters/mobs are very interactive in that, they’ll dodge, they’ll flee, they’ll even line-of-sight you in some cases. PvP is very clearly the focus of the game, but in order to get to a standard that you can PVP, a lot of PVE is required. There’s lots of good guides out there though that you can access on the Darkfall Forums. One thing you cannot do at the moment, however, is reset your prowess points so you need to have some idea of what you’re aiming for. However, you can change your class so you’re not bound by your original choice. There are only 4 classes in the game, and they’re pretty standard (Warrior, Archer, Mage, Priest) choices. Instead of quests, you complete “feats”, which generally call for you to grind something – this can be monsters or crafting, then grant points (prowess) you can spend on character advancement upon completion. Darkfall Unholy Wars is a hardcore PvP sandbox MMO. I figured I’d put together “an overview”, for those who are unfamiliar with the game.
